Skipping to South America we have the renowned Mexican director Guillermo del Toro. Responsible for some truly classic films, none of which can better the sensational work Espinazo del diablo (The Devil’s Backbone). To be fair though, with del Toro at the helm, Eduardo Noriega playing the ‘prince without a kingdom’ this was always going to be an almost unparalleled ghostly tale of horror. Look at the trailer to see what I mean. More from the director after the cut.
Of course del Toro is at his peak now with the film Pan’s Labyrinth, not by any means his strongest work. One aspect of the film I did find impressive however was the make-up and special effects.
Other notable works by the director include Cronos, Mimic and Hellboy.
Eduardo Noriega also starred in Alejandro Amenabar’s excellent film Abre los ojos (Open Your Eyes). Check it out! We’ll finish with the Guano Apes track of the same name. I’ll be featuring them in my next music thread.
