In this meme I’m going to use my knowledge of cinema to give you a few tips on what to check out, hopefully I can find you some new stuff that might have passed under your radar. First things first, if you’re from the UK you might want to bookmark Moviemail which is a very good site to pick up your world cinema from as well as the great horror/scifi site Diabolik DVD. After you’ve finished up there press more and see which country in Europe I’ve decided to give you my 3 top choices from…

Germany

  • Fancy a taboo love affair under the Nazi’s? Aimee and Jaguar is a film that superbly portrays the hardship of living in a dictatorial society, the misogynistic nature of men (some things never change!) and is actually very moving indeed unlike..
  • Lola Rennt (Run Lola Run). This film stars Franka Potente, who was also recently in the film Creep, a horror film based on the London Underground… Take a look at the trailer and if you like it, get it!

  • Finally we have one of my favourite films of all time, Christiane F about a young girl’s battle with heroin addiction on the streets of Berlin. They don’t make them like this anymore! See you next time!

    Very nice! I loved ‘Run Lola Run’ and the red-haired Franka Potente since I first saw it several years ago. Did you know, the director didn’t let Franka Potente wash her hair during the entire length of the film? He didn’t want any inconsistencies with her hair :-)

    I also recommend ‘Head On’. It’s a very strong film.
